Winter Wonderland

It's officially winter up here. It's been snowing loads and we all love it! Lizzy has a bit of an issue with her coat though, She really doesn't like to put it on. Once on, she's OK, but the process of getting it on....whew! That can be quite a production. Lizzy is getting to be more like a little girl than a baby every day. (It's a bitter sweet experience...anyone who's a parent will understand.) She amazes everyone she meets! She is so smart and friendly. I am so proud of her! She is such a little squish. She loves to smile and wave to everyone she sees. Grandma Carol sent Lizzy some toys and stuffed animals a few weeks ago. Lizzy loves them all except one. It's a *purple haired fuzz ball that makes a "boing" sound when thrown.
*Video to follow.

Dave has been aching to build a snow cave. We finally have enough snow to make one. So we did. I say "we" when really I did nothing but lay on my back and look at the snow fall. I did, however, try to catch some on my tongue, unsuccessfully.

Both, I think.

Gift of Gab, like her mother? or Brilliant, like her father? I think, both! Lizzy has been a talker as long as I have known her. 10 1/2 months! (That's her whole life) It's so fun watching her make new sounds and figure things out. I love watching that little person think! Anyways...recently her words have been getting clearer and clearer to understand, even for those who aren't her parents. Thus far I have counted 8 words that she says pretty darn well! EIGHT*! No joke! Here they are:

1. Mama
2. Dada
3. No
4. Ya (Yeah)
5. Hi
6. Na Nigh (Good night)
7.Grandma/pa (they sound the same)
*8. Yellow (Rarely said, but still...)

I will try my very hardest to capture them on video to show the world. In other news, Lauren visited for Thanksgiving, it was good fun for everyone...but Lizzy. J/k, Lizzy likes her uncle.

Promised pictures

Here are the pictures that I promised a while ago. Since I wrote last, Lizzy tooth has gotten bigger and sharper I think. She is getting really quick at biting when you have to fish something out of her mouth. She tries to stand and walk places. She is good at walking while holding onto people or things, but lately she has been trying to stand on her own. It's so cute!

Last night, mom, Dave, Lizzy and I went shopping to get ideas for mom and dad's house. Dave took Lizzy to the toy dept. and she picked out her very own My little Pony! Dave said he would just walk with her down the aisle till she'd point at something. He followed her finger till it stopped on her newest toy. Thanks Grandma!

She got one!!

That's right! Lizzy finally has her first tooth! It made it's apperance last sunday around 4:30-ish. (I know that becuase just before I was fishing something out of Lizzy's mouth and felt nothing.) It's so cute!! My little girl is getting so big! We have yet to take a pic of it, but when we do, I will for sure post it.

Lizzy is the sweetest girl ever. I say girl now, because of the tooth :o( She is so funny with her fake laughs and funny, albeit weird faces. Again, I don't have any pictures at this time. Sorry.

Two weeks ago Dave's Dad and his wife came to visit us! It was so much fun seeing them. Glen and Ann live in California, so it's rare when we see them. Lizzy just loved them both! It was so cute how she was always crawling on them and wanting their attention. I'm pretty sure they enjoyed it too. They came at a great time of year, when all the leaves are changing. Unfortunately, it rained most everyday they were here. But still the farm looked amazing! So, we'd take them for rides on the golf cart, Dave picked a few wild apples, we went to Lake Michigan, bought some fudge in Suttons Bay.....Glen being the adventurous man that he is, rolled up his pant legs and went into the lake! Yeah! I touched it and it was freezing!! Ann gave a great recipe for Pok egg rolls! If anyone wants it, just ask and I will email it to you. They really are the best I have ever had!

It was great seeing them! We were so glad they came to visit. Miss you already!

Let me tell you a little something about Lizzy. Just now she wanted me to pick her up, she did her fake cry for a moment, then I got her. She was so happy, she gave me some cuddles! Oh! She just did again! She must know I am writing about her. AH! I think I will have to finish this later. In all of 2 seconds, she has stuck her finger up my nose and pulled my hair then laughed about it! FYI, it was the hair on top of my head, not in my nose. It felt like I needed to clarify. She really is sweet, but I think she needs some attention.

oh yeah, our camera is broken, that's why we have no pictures right now. Stinky eh?

I have been tagged!

I was tagged by Karla S. and here are my responses to her questions. Here we go!

1) Where did you meet your husband?

A mutual friend brought him over to my apartment.

2) What was the first thing you said to your husband?

"Dave, was it? Please leave my house." (Then after he left, I called him a jerk.) Yeah, I know, not the best start. But in my defense, he's an....an....Avs fan! Can you believe I married a Colorado Avalanche fan? Me either!

I really did kick him out though. He was trash talking the Wings! In a house full of Michigan women! 2 from D-Town! Not the smartest...

3) Where was your first date?

Probably Peaks Ice Arena for some Ice skating. Or maybe it was my brothers party.

5) Did you have a short or long engagement?

4 months. Eh? Long to some, short to others. Just right for us.

6) Where did you get engaged?

He asked me to marry him out on my parents deck at the old house. It was so sweet! It was drizzling a bit, and I had just apologized for being crabby with him because he was acting all weird. I now know that it's just the way he is! J/k, J/k. He was nervous/excited.

7) Where were you married?

SLC Temple, on Oct. 11Th 2003.

8) How did the reception go?

It was really nice! We got there late because it took forever to get our pictures done. Really, that's why were late, despite what my brothers may have told people. Perverts.

9) How was the honeymoon?

We didn't really have one. We got married on a sat. and had to be back to work on Monday. We did stay in SLC for the night at the Inn at Temple Square. For sure, we loved it!

I'm going to tag: Ben and April!

Get the poporn!

Today's double feature include a cute clip of Lizzy waving and another of her dancing! Enjoy!

A bountiful harvest

Where to begin...

Lizzy is 8 months old! Can you believe it?

She is crawling. Everywhere.

She is a tiny dancer. My girls got rhythm.

She is the best vacuum we have ever had!

She is an avid waver.

Her favorite word/phrase is "Dada Dada da" Translation: "There's my Dada!"

She is still toothless.

Again, she is very much a water baby! She loves kicking and splashing around!

Lizzy has a funny way of scrunching up her face and sucking in her top lip. She looks like a baby bird! (Abe-perhaps we have another eagle in the family) So Cute!

Oh yeah! We had a really big thunder storm the other day and it HAILED! It was awesome.

Now for a cute story. We ride G-pa's golf cart around the farm and Lizzy loves it! She squeals with excitement at the sight of it! Whenever we take her out she starts humming because she likes to hear her voice fluctuate from the bumps in the field. It's so cute we will try to catch it on video for all y'all.

We live directly across from the pear orchard and have been enjoying it. The other day we went out a picked some! We also picked some wild apples! Tis the season. I love it! It has made both Dave and I, very excited to plant fruit trees in our own yard someday! WOO HOO for self reliance. :o)

Back to the pear/apple harvest. The trees are over loaded! I am going to can apple sauce and make homemade apple pies and can the pears! Yeah for fun! If anyone has any other good recipes or ideas for the fruit, I am open for suggestions.

Beautiful Michigan

We recently went on a little jaunt to the U.P with mom and dad. And Boy! Was it ever fun! Now, I know the majority of my readers recently did the same trip, wasn't it fun? Though we did something you didn't! HA! We rowed our way across Tahquamenon Falls to the island in the middle of the river. It was so cool! Then we played in the river and in the smaller falls, Lizzy loved it. Dave got naked under the falls. Nah, He wouldn't do that...or would he...anyways, Dave rowed on the way out to the island so I did on the way back. However, I did have a bit of trouble keeping the boat heading in the correct direction. Instead of taking their chances with me, I was given a pink slip and asked to hand over the oars to Dave. Lame right? Looking back, I would say it was a great trip!

Wanna see a cute video?

Here is a cute video of Lizzy, doing what she does best. Acting cute! She is such a laugher and a giggler. She is so much fun!

Leave of absence.

So, After a long leave of absence, I am back. Lots of updates.

Lizzy is already 6 1/2 months old! She is doing great! @ her 6 mo wcc the Dr said she is developing just perfect. Though she only had gained 4 oz. since her last visit. We have been giving her lots of protein to help her pack on the pounds. And it looks like its helping. Oh yeah! He said she has reached alot of the mile markers of a 9 month old. I always knew she was brilliant.

We have moved to Michigan since I wrote last. LOVE IT!! It is so great to be back. Dave, Lizzy and I are living on my grandpa's farm in Suttons Bay. It is so beautiful. Kinda scary at night, since there are no lights from a city and the closest neighbors are a good distance away. Forthe normal person it would be a wonderful retreat, but for someone with an active imagination like myself, kinda scary.

I can't think of all I wanted to write. I guess will just have to post another blog when I remember. Enjoy the pictures of my sweet faced Lizzy.

Little bug

Lizzy had her 4 month well child check (wcc) the other day. I know a bit late, but we had to switch our insurance, and we all know that takes a while. Anywho...the Dr. said she was, and I quote, "Perfect!" I always knew that, but it's nice to hear it from a person who is not the mom, dad or grandparent. Here's what they found out...

Lizzy weighs 13lbs now! Still only in the 20th percentile for her age. And is 26.5 inches long! That's the 90th percentile for height! She is a long, skinny bean! Cute huh?

As for her crawling, I think that was a one time thing. She hasn't done it since. Also, she doesn't feel like rolling over anymore. She has rolled from side to side for a long time now, but just doesn't have any desire to that anymore. I guess she's onto bigger and better things now. For example, she loves to suck on her big toes! It's so funny to watch. I will hear her playing in her bed in the morning and go and look, and there she is! Sucking on her toes and kicking around! What a funny little bug.

SO PROUD!!

OK, Lizzy turned 5 months old last Saturday, the 9Th, and today...she crawled!!! We are so proud of her! I can't even stand it! I was upstairs checking my email when Dave came running up to tell me she was crawling! Not believing what he told me, (since she is so little) I ran down the stairs to see for myself. It was the cutest thing I have ever seen! She would lift her bum up by standing on her tippy toes then she would push herself forward! She did it several times. She moved about a foot and a half! Sadly, by the time we got the video camera out, she was tired and needed to rest, so we only caught the tail end of it where she could barely lift her bum anymore. I will post the video tomorrow if I can figure out how to get it from DVD to the computer. If I can't I will take another video with our regular camera, I think everyone needs to see her royal cuteness at work.

What we've been doing...

Since I have written last, not much has changed. Dave is still working. I am still staying with Lizzy. I have been cooking up a storm! I attribute it to all the cooking shows I have been watching. And since Ikea opened in Draper, I have been decorating (in my mind) our future house. It's going to be so cute! Now we just have to find a house that we love.

Oh yeah! I took Lizzy to the Dr. because she had a little bit of a cold, and they weighed her. She weighed 12 lbs! That's it! They said she was only in the 20Th percentile for her age. She is just a dainty little princess. Lizzy has been getting increasingly smiley and cuddly lately. We are just loving it!

My hero!

I woke up early this morning (5:30am) with Lizzy, after I got her back to bed I went to the bathroom. Not that unusual. On my way down the hall I noticed a rather large black spot along the wall. Seeing that it was a spider, I ran very quickly past! After doing my business, I went back to bed and woke up Dave very gently and told him about the monster in the hall. Being the brave and dutiful man that he is, he immediately got out of bed and slayed the beast! (Then flushed him just to be safe.)

Dave is my hero!

Now, here are some more pictures of our sweet little bug!

More fun pictures!

Hello to all our family and friends who regularly view our blog! Not too much has happened since I last wrote. My cousin Karen got married. That was fun to go to! My mom came out for it, that was great! She got to play with Lizzy some more. I got a bit of a hair cut with bangs. Thanks Ashley! Dave got a another/new job. I painted the bathroom blue. It's really pretty! We finally got all of my kitchen stuff out of storage. That really made my day. OH YEAH!!! The Wings won the game last night! That tied up the series, 2-2. AH! I am so excited about the playoffs! GO WINGS!

Easter Day blessing

Easter was a wonderful day! My parents came out for Lizzy's baby blessing! It was so fun! So many people came, friends, family and others I am sure no one knew. Just messing. After, we all came back to the Hasting home and enjoyed delicious food and delightful chit chat. It was so nice.

The move back to Utah

WE ARE BACK! Yes, I know we have been back for a bit, but we finally have a computer that we are able to post pictures onto out blog and I wanted to wait for that. Here is how is all went down...

Steve, Carol, Carrie and Becca drove down from Utah on Weds. March 14th to attend Dave's graduation from Ft. Huachuca. The apartment was a mess! We were still packing and we needed to leave the next day! On a happier note, that was the first time Grandpa Steve, Aunt Carrie and Aunt Becca met Lizzy! It was so much fun! The next day we went to Dave's graduation in which he graduated with high honors! WOO HOO!! He is so frappin' smart! Afterward we went back to our apt. just to sign off with the office, andthen left on our big adventure back to Utah. The first day we drove to Flagstaff and the stopped for the night. Lizzy, by the way, was AMAZ-ZA-ZING! (Benchwarmers)She either slept or played with her aunts while the car was moving, When stopped she would eat, have a bum change and be happy on her way again! What a relief, can I even tell you...I was rather nervous about it at first.

The second day we drove through the Grand Canyon. I forgot how beautiful it is. We walked the paths for a while along the rim, took great pictures and enjoyed the general slendor of it all. While on our path we happend across a family of mountain goats! They were so calm, just walked around while we all took pictures. They would stand and pose as if the park had paid them to do so!

After leaving the park in the late afternoon, we drove the rest of the way to Provo. Oh yeah! We stopped at a Denny's just across the Utah state line and our waiter was drunk! HA!

All in all, a great trip!

I finally caught one!

I have been telling everyone how smiley Lizzy is, but I am sure that no one really believes me since she started smiling so young. I finally have proof! I finally got a picture of her huge smile before she noticed the camera. It seems as soon as the camera pops out, her smile quickly goes away. I guess she's just trying to figure out what that things is in her face.

Also, for those who don't know...Lizzy had to go the ER on Friday March 2ND because she had coughed up blood! I think that was the worst day of my life. Dave was away on his Field Training Exercise (FTX) and unable to have contact with the outside world. Thank goodness my friend Michelle and her husband Steve were here visiting, I don't think I would have been able to handle it on my own.

So, we went to the ER and one of Dave's friends was at the ER also because he had cut his hand while on the FTX. Cook recognized me and asked how I was doing (I think he noticed the red, teary, puffy eyes) I told him what was going on with Lizzy so that he would be able to get a message to Dave, which he did. (tender mercy? I think so.) Anyways, they ran loads and loads of tests. They even had to draw her blood from her little veins! It still kills me to think about it. All the tests came back negative, thankfully. Everything seems to be fine now, her usual doctor told me it was likely from broken capillaries she could have gotten from coughing or sneezing alot. ( I didn't notice her coughing or sneezing alot though.) She hasn't had any problems since.

On a happier note, Dave is graduating on Thursday the 15Th! WOO HOO! We are going to be heading back to Utah the same day, and taking a little detour through the Grand Canyon with his family. They will be coming down to see his graduation and help us move some of our stuff back. I can't even wait!

(To see the captions hold your mouse over the picture you want to read about.)

"How cute am I?"

Only 16 more days till we leave for Utah! We are so excited to see our family and friends again. WOO HOO! But we will miss our friends in AZ. See you soon!

Here are some recent pictures of the fam and some friends. Hope you like them!

Angel Face

UPDATE: Lizzy now weighs 9lb 4 oz and is 21 inches long! She is growing so fast!
Back to my angel face...
Everyone always posts their kids with big smiles having fun, I do too. But here is another side of Lizzy that is rarely seen even by her parents! She still looks so sweet! This was taken when she was so tired, I had a hard time calming her to get her to bed. (I missed the crucial sleepiness window.)

How cute is that? Oh, I just love her cute face! She really does smile most of the time. She's quite playful and happy. Here is a picture of her playing with daddy, look at that huge smile!

Singing Sundays

The weather today was beautiful. After church Dave and I thought it would be nice to go for a walk with Lizzy in our baby carrier. We drove onto post and found some mountain trails, it was really nice. Sunny and warm. (70's-ish) Lizzy was sound asleep in her carrier and she started singing in her sleep! She was "cooing" or humming her own little tune! It was the sweetest thing ever! It's not like it was just for a few seconds, it went on for a bit. Maybe that's a sign she is going to be musical. No matter what, it was just so cute!

Count your many blessings 1 by 1

Let me start by saying...we have been so blessed in our life.

Yesterday Dave and I bought a brand new 2007 Saturn Vue! Which is the SUV that I have wanted for years! The timing to get it was perfect since the dealership was offering 0% APR for the term of the loan, so WOO HOO! And they gave us a great deal on our trade-in. (virtually unheard of) So, we bought one! When all is said and done we are only paying $60 more a month (car and insurance) than our old Civic and we have a bigger, newer and most importantly a far safer car. Oh yeah, it's about the color of this text, as you see in the picture I enclosed.

And today was Lizzy's first day at church! (Would have gone last week, but she was sick.) She did so well! Everyone was so impressed with her severe cuteness and wonderful temperment. She is so perfect! Doesn't she look so pretty in her dress?

Smiley baby!

First things first. I am so happy to say that Lizzy likes to be swaddled! The first few times Dave and I tried to do it, she would just cry and fuss, but then last night I watched "The Happiest Baby on the Block" (also a book) and in it, the Dr. said that babies usually fuss when being swaddled, then calm down shortly after. I tried it. I swaddled Lizzy really well and after her 2ND yawn I put her in her bed. I had to "SHHHH" her for just a minute, till she was calm again. Then I left the room and she went to sleep on her own!!! Not only did she fall asleep on her own, she slept for 4 1/2 hours! After she and I took Dave to class at 4:30am, I fed her, changed her diaper, swaddled again, then put her down while still awake....she fell asleep on her own again! AND slept for another 4 hours! I feel great and rested! We really do have an angel baby.

Here is a video of her playing and looking so cute.

My little helper.

My friend Heather came out from Michigan to help me after Lizzy was born, and somehow I didn't get a single picture with her and Lizzy. So, I had her email the pictures that she took on her camera. Isn't that just so sweet? Lizzy loves her aunt Heather.

First Month. First Cold.

My poor little Lizzy has a cold! She has been stuffy and coughing and sneezing for the past couple days. It's so sad to see. The worst part is there is no medicine for her littleness. So, I have been instructed my her doctor to put saline drops in her nose, then suck it out with that blue bubble sucker thing! (Which she hates!) Then I have to put a tiny bit of Baby Vick's under her nose. That only covers her stuffiness, it does nothing to help with her coughing and sneezing. Here is what happens...she starts to cry and then in the middle she will start coughing usually followed by a series of 3 sneezes. It's so cute to watch, but so sad for her.

One for the Guiness Book?

Late Saturday evening, Dave, Lizzy and I were enjoying a movie with our new friends (who, coincidentally are expecting a baby girl in 2 weeks) when Lizzy pooped! Nothing out of the norm, she does that. I then sent Dave to do the dirty work. Just moments after he got her onto the changing table we heard a terrified yelp come from Dave! Freaked me right out! I thought something terrible must have happened...and I was right.

I went running into the bedroom where I saw it! I saw it all! Lizzy wasn't quite done going poo when Dave started changing her diaper, so she finished while on the table, but it didn't stay on the table. Our little girl must have had some built up pressure because she shot it about 4 feet!!! It landed on our bed! Can you believe it? That's got to be some sort of record!

So Fun!

Life is so fun! Dave and I are loving being new parents! Of course I am sure that it helps when you have the perfect daughter...(ask anyone! They will agree! Really!)

Life is going great in AZ. Dave is is doing wonderful in his class, though they are having very long days filled with lots of tests and training. His days start at 4am when he wakes up and go until 7 or even 8pm! My days are filled with feedings and diaper changes and naps if I am lucky. I know I should nap when Lizzy does, and I do, just not as often as I should. I am reading a good book right now called "the Baby Whisperer..." Those who are going to be parents or already are, I highly suggest reading it. It's quite helpful.

So, the point in me doing a post today was to show off some more pictures of our recent addition. Here they are!

It's a belly button now!!

Dave and I are very excited to announce that Lizzy no longer has her umbilical cord chunk stuck to her! It fell off on Saturday to reveal the cutest little belly button ever! Also, we wanted to do a quick shout out to those who came out to help us in our first few days with her. In order of appearance....Carol, Doris, and Heather! Thanks for all your help! We really appreciate it. It can be kinda nerve racking having a new born to care for for the first time ever all by yourself. I really enjoyed the company and I know Dave felt better knowing that I would have help. Thanks again for all you do.
Grandma Carol

Grandma Doris

(Sorry Heather, I didn't take any pictures of you with my camera! I thought I did. But only yours! Will you email those to me please?)

Here's one more picture just because she is so cute!

Saturday, January 13, 2007

Lizzy came home on the 11th and was so good. We love having her here and she is so cute. I always have the camera ready to take pictures because everything she does is so cute. When she wakes up, I get her and give her to Felicia to feed and then i burp her and change her diaper and get her to go back to sleep. She just sits in my arms in the dark and quietly stares at me. Last night she got up at four and cried for a while though. She must have felt a little sick. We love her.

Tuesday, January 9, 2007

this is Dave. We had our baby today and i ran home to put these up. Elizabeth (Lizzy) Lindsey Hastings was born on January 9th 2007 at 7:19 AM and she was 7 lbs and 9 oz. and 19 inches long. Here are some pictures.

Here she comes!

Just a quick little F.Y.I. for you all. I had an OB appt. this last week and we found out that our sweet princess is breech! (I could tell since she sticks her head into my ribs on a daily basis) Oh yeah, we also found out that she is a big girl! Circa 8-8.5lbs...so, I am not allowed to have her normally. I will be going into the hospital early on tuesday morning to have her delivered via C-section. Not the way I would have chosen to do things, but definatly the safest for the baby and myself.

YEAH! We will finally have a baby to put in our crib, car seat, stroller and all our baby clothes that have been waiting for her arrival! We will keep you all posted to the best of our ability over the next week. I am going to have Dave post her first pictures on the blog ASAP so you can enjoy her as well.

Talk to you soon!

Strange experiments on Dave

So, funny story. Dave is my guniea pig! Ok, not so funny or so much a story, but the point is he bends to my every whim! Maybe he feels bad for me because I am still very much pregnant, or maybe he just likes to see me laugh (at him mostly) whatever the case may be he lets me get away with most anything I want to do to him! Over the 2 week mass Christmas exodus from post, he decided to grow a beard. I loved it! He looks very good in facial hair, for the most part. Near the end of the 2 weeks we both knew that his bearded days were numbered. He would need to shave it clean before returning to post. His beard then went through several transformations until finally there was nothing left. Please enjoy the slideshow we put together. Hope you all had a very Merry Christmas and Happy New Year! WOO HOO! Yeah for 2007!
